Smarter Travels: What to Prepare for Your Travel Excursion

“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” –Mark Twain

Traveling to new and foreign places can be an exhilarating experience.

Immersing yourself in another country’s culture, history and getting to enjoy all of its respective activities is nothing short of fantastic. However, before you get to experience the blissful heights that come with traveling, you need to ensure that you are adequately packed first. This does not mean having enough clothes to wear on your trip, but rather packing all the essentials you need to have for your trip. Sure, it can be quite overwhelming, and the task might be a bit daunting, but this should be one of the initial considerations you should put into mind before you go globetrotting. After all, you would not want to be put into a situation wherein you are miles away from home only to discover you badly need something you have forgotten. In any case, to ensure that you are well-prepared for your trip, here are some of the indispensable tips you should take into account before even booking that budget hotel in Cebu City or elsewhere and flying off:

1.)    Ensure that you have your personal documents and money stashed away

Always keep your travel documents and some spare cash in one place. Make sure they are tucked somewhere safe and would be easily accessible should you need them. Travel and identification documents are paramount when it comes to traveling as you will never know when you will be asked to present them. Moreover, having some spare cash is rudimentary even if you are traveling for free (sponsorships and privileges) as you will never know when you need them for an emergency. Prepare your airline tickets and hotel reservations as well and keep them in the same place as your travel documents so that you can easily produce them when asked.

2.)    Essential Clothing and Accessories

How you pack for your trip largely depends on where you want to go. Tropical countries would require you to bring hats and clothing that allow for ample ventilation. Colder countries would demand your sartorial selection to be a lot thicker so as to protect you from the harsh and cold winds. However, regardless of where you go, make sure that your clothes are weather appropriate. After all, you do not want to be spending most of your travel money stocking up on country-appropriate clothes when you could be spending it on something else far worthier.

3.)    Footwear

Much like how you should pack appropriate clothing for your trip, you should also pack appropriate footwear. Ensure that you also pack proper shoes that are comfortable to wear and are long-wearing. At the most, you should have two shoes: one for outdoor activities such as hiking, running, and casual walking. The other pair is something you can wear indoors. Do not fret about the additional luggage though as travel bags usually have enough space and room for footwear.

4.)    Medical and First Aid Kits

Never neglect to bring any prescription medicines you might have. Moreover, if you have any allergies, do not forget to bring anti-allergy medications as you will never know when you might be eating something you are allergic to. So, it is always best to come prepared. If you have any medical conditions, make sure to have yourself checked first before traveling as these can make your travel excursions inconvenient if left untreated leaving you with a bad travel experience. Lastly, bring a small pouch that has most over the counter medications as well as your standing medications. Whether you will need it or not, you will sleep more soundly knowing that you travel prepared.
