Summer Capitals: The Best Four Beaches to Visit in Cebu

“There is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it is sent away.” –Author Unknown

Beach (noun) A place of relaxation, rest and tranquility

Apart from being known as the Lechon Capital of the Philippines, Cebu is also known for its world-class resorts and pristine white sand beaches. In fact, by the time summer season arrives, Cebu can expect an influx of foreign visitors as well as a flurry of local guests hoping to sample island living at its finest. Cebu is known to be a summer beach capital where anyone can cool their bodies at the nearest beach from the blisteringly hot weather. But do know that there are some beach locations whose beauty remains unrivaled. If you wish to visit other beaches that are found elsewhere apart from the ones in proximity to your Mactan hotel, here are a few that should make it to your itinerary:

1.)    Sta. Fe (Bantayan Island)

While this definitely requires an overnight trip on your part, the gorgeous and picturesque beaches will be worth your lengthy excursion. From the North Bus Terminal, you would need to ride a bus going to the Hagnaya port which is located in the north of Cebu. From there you can take a boat ride to Bantayan Island. When you do set foot on the island, however, you will see beautiful beaches that remain unrivaled and unspoiled until today. Moreover, it is incredibly easy to get around the island. If you know how to ride a bike, you can rent one for as low as a hundred pesos which would already be good enough to last you the entire day.

2.)    Carnaza (Daanbantayan)

Carnaza is considered one of the hidden gems of Cebu as it was not until recently when the beach earned its popularity and its spot on this list. Located in one of the northernmost islands of Cebu and even further than Malapascua Island, Carnaza used to be a private island owned by a local politician until he decided to open his resort to the public. Unfortunately, there are no ferry rides going to the island so you will need to ride a Bangka going from Tapilon Port in Daanbantayan to Carnaza. However, you would see that it was worth all the effort once you reach the island. Perfect for a couple’s retreat or a barkada getaway, the island is not only secluded but tranquil as well. In this way, you would not have to compete with others for the scenic views of the beach, and you can enjoy it without other people to disturb you.

3.)    Malapascua Island

As Malapascua is in proximity to Monad Shoal where the thresher sharks live, the island is known to be a habitat for these creatures. As a result, so many of its resorts offer guests diving courses that would include seeing these majestic animals up close (if your guts can handle it). However, aside from being up close and personal to those creatures, Malapascua is beautiful right off the bat. Its white beaches and long stretches of sand are two notable characteristics that make tourists come back again and again. To reach the island, you need to ride a bus from the North Bus Terminal and ride it all the way to Maya Port. From there, ride the ferry going to Malapascua.

4.)    Sumilon Island

On a private car, you can reach Sumilon Island within three hours. However, do take note that you have to take a ferry going to the island. In any case, Sumilon is located in the municipality of Oslob where Whale Sharks are the main attraction. Once on the island, you would readily notice not only the clear blue waters but the beautiful sandbar that appears whenever the tide is low. Do remember that Sumilon has only one hotel resort which means it can get pricey, but know that the resort offers a myriad of activities from hiking, paddling and the like. In this regard, you can be sure that a trip there would be worth every peso you spend.
